US SANCTIONS AGAINST VENEZUELA AND OTHER CURRENT LEGAL ISSUES
Presentations by Judy Somberg & Susan Scott, National Lawyers Guild.
Tue. September 13 – Sargent Hall, Room 365, Suffolk Law School – 120 Tremont Street, Boston, MA
In March 2016 the US government renewed sanctions against Venezuela. What exactly are these sanctions and what effect do they have on the political and economic situation in Venezuela? Meanwhile, inside Venezuela, the National Assembly has enacted a series of laws attempting to undermine the Bolivarian constitution. The Supreme Court has ruled some of those laws unconstitutional. What is happening in the current disputes among the executive, legislative, judicial, electoral, and citizens’ power branches?
Judy Somberg, of Cambridge, and Susan Scott, of Inverness, CA, working with the National Lawyers Guild International Committee, have brought several delegations to Venezuela and have hosted US speaking tours of a Venezuelan Supreme Court judge, the President of the Electoral Council, and other Venezuelan lawyers.
